              Jeera Aloo  is a vegetarian Indian food which is easy to make in hurry days and is much delicious to have with main course.


Jeera Aloo  

                   
Jeera Aloo which is usually called Sabzi  is served with chapati or roti , dal , rice , puri.
 Jeera aloo is made up of mainly potato and jeera ( cumin ) which is roasted and crushed with pestle to get it's natural aroma and flavours  that lifts up whole recipe . 
       
                   Jeera aloo is mostly seen in the north Indian kitchens in lunch and dinner goes well with chapati or roti and the main thing is it made quickly with some toss with less spices.

                   Most of aloo recipes are made on many variations including Jeera Aloo , by adding grounded jeera or with powdered one. It made on many occasions and and in pooja festivities since it is no garlic no onion recipe it fits in all religious festivities. 

               This aloo recipe can be used in wrapes with some ketchup for kids and in sandwich with some veggies or fillings or in for simple tikki fillings.

                Lets take a look on the recipe ingredients and preparation.

Preparation time : 5 mins

Cooking time       : 15 mins 

Ingredients : 

  • 4 Aloo ( potato ) 
  • 1 teaspoon jeera ( cumin )
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon jeera powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice 
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 teaspoon oil
  •  1 tablespoon finely chopped coriander.

Preparation :

  1. Boil the aloo in cooker or pot with enough water to cover and boil it until its cooked from inside and you should be careful as we don't want them overcook it will be mashy.
  2. Try to check in intervals with fork or knife.
  3. Peel the skin of potato after keeping it to cool in room temperature.
  4. Cut the boiled potatoes into small cubed size.
  5. Keep it aside.

Making of Jeera Aloo :

  1. Place the frying pan or kadai on a medium flame .
  2. Add  oil let it heat up for few seconds then add jeera ( cumin ).
  3. Then add potatoes that already prepared and toss it up.
  4. Then keep it low medium flame add all spices ( coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, jeera powder, chaat masala ) then mix or toss all that it covers all.
  5. Then add salt as per the taste and  let it cook for 3 mins on medium flame.
  6. Try to toss it well as we dont want them to be burnt from bottom 
  7. Lastly add lemon juice and sprinkle chopped coriander and serve it in bowl.

  • It improves Blood Cholesterol.
  • Has an anti-inflammatory effect.

     

 Notes:

  1. Jeera Aloo can be used as chaat recipe by adding some sev on it.
  2. It can be garnished with some curd in chaat.
